A Baby’s Nursery Can Have A Classic Look And Feel

If you are expecting a new addition to your family, you have no doubt spent time shopping for the nursery. Many parents are pleased with the selection of cartooned themed designs for baby furniture and accessories, and they delight in decorating a pastel colored room filled with animal characters or baby motifs. Others though feel that these themed rooms are an impractical expense. Chances are, even your child will want to make changes as they grow. Even if that is not the case, it can get tiring spending time in a cartoon themed room. Instead of choosing something with a timeline, consider creating a timeless design that is classy and ages well as your child grows. A nursery can be a bright, comfortable space even without the pastels and baby animals. You can add special features such as picture lights above the frames with a special painting or artwork. A picture light will draw attention to family photos, helping a child feel loved and become familiar with relatives and loved ones. They are also fantastic for making artwork pop in a room. If you have hung photos in frames on the wall, create interest around them and make them special.

Another way to have a classic design is with color. All too often, parents choose only soft pastels to represent a baby, and as the child ages, they are left with a juvenile color scheme that rarely appeals to anyone except a very small child. Paint may be easy to change, but it can take days to paint a room and reassemble the furniture and accessories.

Instead of using pinks and blues, go with a more classic color and use the baby colors as accents. Imagine how timeless a room would look with a neutral shade of paint like soft gray or warm beige, accented with pale blue linens and bedding.

Opting for furniture in darker hues creates a warm feel, or you can brighten up the space with lighter woods. You can also add warmth and comfort to the room by choosing flooring that is easy for baby crawl on, but that can also be kept clean. Try area rugs that can be shaken out or tossed into the washing machine when the time comes. This way you can make changes to the flooring color scheme and allow the look to change with the other accessories.

By choosing non-traditional colors for a baby’s nursery, you can create a classic look that will grow with your child and allow you and your entire family to feel comfortable spending time in baby’s room.
